Next Art Salon Meetings

We will not be meeting during the month of August, due to travel, summer, solo shows, etc.
However, here are the next few meeting dates:

Sunday, September 20, 2:00 PM Judith Carona (I call her Judith, but she also goes by Judy)
Sunday, October 25, 2:00 Kate Savage
Addresses and directions to follow.
Clinton has committed to November. Date to be determined.
Carolyn has committed to January.
Cherie would like to go in February.

December will probably be too busy for us, but maybe we can work out a non-studio meeting. Or a holiday to-do.

Clinton Bopp: Barnsdall Municipal Art Park

Clinton is in the large scale group show at Barnsdall. Check out the website or call for more details.

Tom Miller: A Fool's Paradise

Please come and support Tom in his upcoming one person exhibit at
The Lancaster Museum/Art Gallery.
The show runs from August 15 - October 11, 2009.
Opening reception, Friday, August 14, 6-9 PM.
Artist's Talk: Saturday, 8/15 at 1 PM.
We discussed going on Saturday for the Art Talk.
We can communicate further to see if there are any possible carpooling possibilities.
Congratulations Tom. It looks great from the photos so far!

Sandy Abrams studio visit, July 26, 2009

It's so nice to know that the talent pool runs deep in our group. Sandy, thank you so much for sharing with us your fantastic work, pithy descriptions, poetry, stories and spirit. It was so exciting to see the enormous amount of unique and well-crafted pieces that you have created. It was also pretty amazing to hear you glide through the descriptions of how they were made: Well, then I made a Shaker bed, soldered some steel, knit some sweaters, shrunk some wool, harvested a dozen bagels to serve for your snacks, etc. A hope you heard the accolades being thrown your way. Take it in. It is such a strong body of work.

Here are some of the other topics that we discussed and the related links:
Of course we mentioned getting our work seen, communicating with galleries and sharing our images. We will put a group show together this fall or early winter.
Beth, we missed you!
Clinton, welcome back!
Peggy, thank you for bringing your friend, artist Clark Fox. I was really interested in his observations. Please thank him for us.
Zelda, have a great time at the artist's colony. I hope it is productive and inspirational.
Websites
Kate referred to Mobilme which has a place to post your work. I haven't checked this out fully, but you can!
I mentioned Big Black Bag. I was impressed with this site.
This provides a variety of templates, plenty of color options and some pretty great ways to create a not-too-expensive website. You also manage it yourself, so you can change it as often as you'd like.
Cherie and John discussed the current evolution of website software and thought that it was getting easier to work with as the moments tick by.
The George Billis gallery was recommended for its current show.

It was another great Salon. Thank you so much for showing up and truly participating. Craig and I were both looking forward to it while we were away and we thought of you and our group many different times.
As they say in Southeast Asia: Merci!

Artists of interest

Dang Xuan Hoa
This is the artist the Craig and I saw in Hanoi,Vietnam. This is a small sample of his work and doesn't represent the new, large work that was so intoxicating! Google him for images. There's not one great site that shows everything.
Patrick Dougherty
This installation artist/sculptor was one the people that Sandy cited as an influence. Organic and beautiful.
