Thank you so much Beth for sharing your work with us. I know that everyone genuinely enjoyed seeing your work. Today in particular, there seemed to be a general sense of appreciation for what we are creating through this salon. Your work provoked interesting dialogue and resonated on many levels. It looked fantastic and the space was a great option for you.
We all would like to take Stu up on his offer to let us put on a show in one of his vacant buildings.
We can continue to talk about this idea.
We didn't have a chance, or perhaps there was no need to make announcements today. If anyone forgot to bring something up, please pass the information on to me.
I'm sorry that I am the only one who can post from here, but please send me any info and I will add it on quickly. Or you can always hit "comments".
The general consensus was that we missed Tom.
Clinton, if you are out there, come back!
Next meeting: Saturday, May 9 at John and Cherie's house.
This Salon is an opportunity for artists to come together to revel, ponder and chat. It's a chance to share our work and our thoughts. It is a place to foster new ideas, broaden perspectives and to meet other working artists. Guest visitors and speakers will be encouraged to help ignite dialogue. We may: share and discuss articles, books, exhibitions and techniques. But mostly it is a place to talk about our art and what it means to be an artist today.

Beth Leister's Studio Visit
March 29, 2:00 PM
11661 Santa Monica Boulevard at Barry
A few doors west of the En Sushi restaurant (which has a big sign).
Please remember to save this date for Beth's studio visit. Her husband Stu has secured this space for her to display her work for this day.
Because it is an empty space and there will not be furniture, Beth thinks that you should bring a beach chair or something to sit on. The floor might be dusty for pillows.
I think that you will find Beth's work to be exciting and should provoke some interesting dialouge!
Looking forward to seeing all of you!

Annual San Pedro Home Tour and Art Auction
Yo arteests! I wanted to ask if you would consider donating
a piece to the Annual San Pedro Home Tour and Art Auction. It's a really
nice event and the proceeds go the the Land Conservancy's
work on White Point Park in San Pedro. White Point is a stretch of coast
which, having functioned as everything from a Nike Base to a hangout for
drug addicts, is gradually being restored with native plants, interpretive
center, etc. Each year about 6 historic or beautiful or eccentric houses
are opened to the public for a day, after which participants meet for a
reception and art auction with food, wine and music. This year, there
will also be a reception a week or so before the event specifically for the
artists, where we can show our work, answer questions, etc.. (plus eat and
drink).
Could those of you willing to do this please send your addresses to my
email: peggyreavey@ymail.com
I need to have a formal invitation sent to you.
Thanks!!
Now go make some art.

Zelda's studio visit
Well, that was a wonderful visit. I always leave these Salons feeling nourished from our conversations. I feel that we are a good blend of personalities and points of view. We are all bringing our expertise and experience to the table and it seems to be working. Even when things get a little bumpy, we seem to self-correct. Thank you.
Thank you so much Zelda for showing us your beautiful, somewhat mythical and novel work! Your images and aesthetic are staying with me. Your house is gorgeous and your snacks maintained our high level of culinary expectations.
Welcome Peggy. Your insights and contribution to our dialogue are a welcome addition. You fit right in!
Here is a summary of our meeting. We discussed the following:

Here is a summary of our meeting. We discussed the following:
- We discussed the idea of meeting the first Sunday of each month. Unless there is a conflict with the date. let's keep this in mind as we continue to schedule.
- A possible group show at Stella Dottir. Most were in favor. Now, I will talk to Stella about this. Please check out the store next time you are downtown.
- Let's keep on the lookout for alternative spaces for future shows.
- I emphatically recommend listening to the Podcasts of What do Curators Want? See archives.
- Peggy highly recommends the Two Germany's show at LACMA.
- Craig and I both enjoyed the photo show at the Santa Barbara Museum.
- Judith mentioned her friend, artist Cheryl Klein. She has a wonderful work and teaching space on Motor and National. Judith, please find out more.
- Kate thought that we should have a meeting eventually devoted to Artists Statements. After a few more visits, we can schedule this.
- Missing from meeting: Beth and Clinton.
- The blog: Send me any info or listings that you would like published and I'll post it for you. You can always go back in the archives or post an immediate comment to anything previously posted. It's not perfect, but it functions.
